When One Door Closes…

“When one door closes, God will open another one” – goes the popular saying.

“Yes, but no one tells you that we will encounter  “heck” in the hallway!”

Unfortunately, more often than not, our detour leads to some sort of turmoil. The turmoil is not sent from God, but rather the consequence from a poor choice.

If we live our life based on our feelings and don’t seek God’s will for our life, we will find that we have walked down an unpleasant path. We probably were nudged to avoid that path, but we simply ignored it. The inner voice that tried to get our attention is the Holy Spirit, whose job is to guide believers towards God’s way of life.

If we ignore that voice again and again and again, eventually the helper (Holy Spirit) will leave us to our own choices and yes, we will suffer the consequences- the “heck” in the hallway!

Even if we surrender our life to God, we will come up against the consequences of our previous poor choices.

When one door closes, we shouldn’t get discouraged, instead let’s rejoice that God is protecting us! God will always allow the proper door to open at the appropriate time IF we are committed to following His teachings. Remember, if God is leading, we can be sure it will be towards a door that leads to peace, contentment and joy. If we continue long enough, making a pact with God that we will follow Him no matter what comes against us, the blessing waiting for us through that next door, will be beyond what we could have created for ourselves.

“God blesses the people who patiently endure testing.” (James 1:12 NLT)

I urge you to turn to God. He is a loving father, better than any father on earth. The moment we repent of our sins (and we all sin!) He forgives us and puts us back on track, guiding us to the opened door where His blessings can be found.

“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)

For encouragement along your path may I suggest listening to “I Will Follow” by Chris Tomlin linked here.
