Hello,
Today I’d like to talk to you about the power of God. This is a topic I was never taught in organized religion; yet when you pick up the Bible to read, God’s power is discussed in all parts of the Bible. There are stories of the Lord’s power found in the Old Testament- the most popular being the parting of the Red Sea. There are also powerful healing stories in the the New Testament, including the miraculous resurrection of Jesus.
God is powerful and His power is just as available today- for those in His Kingdom.
Let me backtrack.
There are two groups of believers. Those that believe in the Lord, and those that believe in the Lord, read His Holy Book and follow His ways. The second group of people are in God’s Kingdom which has started on earth and will continue until Jesus returns to earth. These followers have yielded their choices to God and subsequently have become filled with the Holy Spirit’s power.
A child of God is exactly that, a person who submits to the Father, follows Him and has inherited the things He says we can have- like power to conquer all that life throws at us. If we follow His ways we will avoid or overcome many setbacks, traumas, illnesses, problems, poverty and spiritual death.
“After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward shall be very great.”(Genesis 15:1)
There is also a protective shield around God’s followers. This shield doesn’t allow the anger, malace and hateful words others throw in our direction, to hurt us. You can read or hear hate filled words directed at you and the words simply bounce off you. There will be no hate, no hurt, absolutely nothing.
“For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD gives grace and glory; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.”(Psalm 84:11)
“But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head.”(Psalm 3:3)
Another way God shows His supernatural power in His followers lives, is the way He weaves together the good and bad of life to make the end result absolutely beautiful. Placing our trust in God is always the right choice.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight.“(Proverbes 3:5-6)
Our obedience to Biblical teachings combined with our weakness is the perfect set up for God to work in our lives. God gave us a free will, we can either do everything ourselves or we can say “Lord, help me. I repent of all wrongdoing in my life and I choose to follow you. Please take my life out of my hands and guide me- I will follow.”
“But he (Jesus) said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”(2 Cor 12:9-11)
If you are in a dead end situation and you are straining to make the best of the remaining years of your life, yet fail time and time again- try God. Pick up a Life Application Study Bible in the New Living Translation by Tyndale and start to read. When you search God’s Holy Book with a heartfelt desire after sincerely repenting of your sins, God will give you immediate peace and He will start to show you His amazing power. But remember, God doesn’t give “diamonds” away at the first half hearted effort of a skeptic. He allows you to “mine” for awhile before He opens up your eyes to understanding.
My hope is that you are persistent in your search for the Lord and that someday you come to know His power!
All my best,
Lisa
