Post 193 The Practicality Of Prayer

Hello,

In the book of Genesis the fourth chapter we get a glimpse of the beginning of prayer in the verse:

“Seth also had a son and he named him Enoch. At that time the people began to call on the name of the Lord.”(Gen 4:26)

Seth was Adam and Eve’s third son and it was during this time period people began to pray. Later in Genesis a type of intercessory prayer was offered by Abraham. Intercessory simply means that one person prays for another person or even a whole group of people.

Abraham prayed for the people living in Sodom and Gomorrah and asked the Lord whether He would destroy everyone- the sinners and the righteous.  Abraham negotiated with the Lord several times and finally the Lord decided that if there were ten righteous people, a city would not be destroyed completely. Later we find that Sodom and Gomorrah were indeed destroyed due to rampant sin. Surprisingly, the archeological evidence of the burned cities exists today. Read about it here  https://www.timesofisrael.com/evidence-of-sodom-meteor-blast-cause-of-biblical-destruction-say-scientists/

Prayer, both personal and intercessory are very important and we are told to pray in the Bible.Rejoice always,  pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thes 5:16-18)”

Prayer is powerful- it was a gift given to us along with our free will. We have free will to believe that the Lord can help us or we can dismiss Him. There are countless examples in the bible of successful prayer. I will leave a link to an excellent book of prayer. The stories in this book  will assure everyone to expect the Lord to hear and answer our heartfelt prayers.

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”(1 Peter 5:7)
