Hello,
Today I’d like to talk to you about spending time with Jesus.
The Bible is God’s inspired Word passed down supernaturally through the ages. It is inerrant and will be powerful forever. Those who read it sincerely will understand it’s power and they will understand the power in the name of Jesus.
There is a story in the book of Acts that talks about Peter and John, two of the Apostles. These two men were uneducated as far as religious training yet performed miracles and spoke confidently of what they knew about Jesus.
“Now as they observed the confidence of Peter and John and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed and began to recognize them as having been with Jesus. And seeing the man who had been healed (by them), they had nothing to say in reply.”(Acts 4:13-14)
A theological degree is not necessary to know Jesus. In fact, many times it can be a detriment. Why? Because anytime we are taught by anyone other than the Lord we can rely on their interpretation of the Bible instead of what we can learn straight from the Lord Himself.
The best way to understand the Lord fully and without error is to read the Bible ourselves. This is spending time with Jesus and when we do, He can speak to us and open our eyes of understanding.
After Jesus died on the cross the veil that separated the area that secluded the presence of God from the people, was torn in two. This profound spontaneous tearing of the thick curtain at the last breath of Jesus signified that we no longer need a priest in order to come into the presence of Jesus. Jesus left us with “the helper” also known as the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit resides within us the moment we believe in Jesus’ death and resurrection and He helps us interpret the things of God- namely the Bible. The Holy Spirit is powerful and will work through our prayer life if we keep our behaviors and words in line with the Word of God. We can be bold with our prayer requests, we can expect miracles and we know that all of the promises in the Bible for every one who chooses to walk with the Lord and follow His ways- are “yes!”
“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”(Heb 4:16)
Don’t let any secular believer tell you that you aren’t qualified to help others come to know the Lord. It is the purpose for all of our lives to read, study and put into action the faith and wisdom which the Lord has given us. We all have the potential to be bible scholars and bible teachers, it is simply up to us to begin the process of learning from the Lord. It has nothing to do with intellect and everything to do with our heartfelt desire to know God. The Lord leveled the “playing field” in every aspect of life. We can be a young child or an uneducated adult- but if we have desire to read the Bible and we make a heartfelt attempt, we will be privy to the Lord’s profound wisdom.
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with your entire heart. I will be found by you declares the Lord..”(Jeremiah 29:13-14a)
Food for thought,
