Post 217. It Is Finished

Hello,

Today I’d like to talk to you about Jesus’ last words while He was hanging on the cross about to die for our sins:

“When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.”(John 19:30)

This is the most powerful verse in the Bible in my opinion. Jesus surrendered His life to His Father’s will and suffered great pain for us so that we who believe in Him and accept Him and His teachings can enter the Kingdom on earth- a place of power, healing, help, provision and peace.

The pain we encounter in life can pave the way to our surrender to our Heavenly Father. When we have come to the end of ourselves and no human being can help us get through our messed up life- this pain is a gift if we trust Jesus to help us.

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”(2 For 12:9)

Accepting Jesus as our personal Savior means we will spend eternity with the Lord. But there is more. We must hand our lives over to God and allow Him and His Word to guide our behavior in order to feel the peace, joy, protection and power that Christ has accomplished for us on the cross. We must fill our mind with Scripture and act like a child of God believing His Word as we would believe our own father’s promise of good things. God’s promises are trustworthy because the Lord cannot lie.

God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?”(Numbers 23:19)

As we read the Word of God we become empowered to think of ourselves as God sees us- clean, pure, justified. It’s as if Jesus gave us a white hooded robe and put it on us- the only thing God can see is Jesus himself- pure and worthy of every good thing.

This is what a born again person looks like to our Heavenly Father. Reading the Bible allows us to renew our mind and believe strongly that what God says in His Word is true. We all have hope for a brighter, empowered abundant future. But it isn’t handed to us without us doing our part and coming to the Lord to read and change our behavior to align with His Holy Words.

We should think of reading the Bible as God conversing with us. We bring our requests, problems and concerns to the Lord and then start to read. As we read and sincerely seek an answer to what we need, we will eventually know the answer if we do not give up!

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”(Gal 6:9)

The term “doing good” in the above verse is first and foremost spending time with the Lord through prayer, praise and reading His Words. Don’t give up! You will receive what you are asking for if it is good and the timing is right.  God accomplished everything we need at the cross. It is finished….everything we could ever need is within our grasp as children of the King. Jesus conquered death therefore there is nothing He can’t do for us- Praise the Lord!

Food For Thought,
