Post 209 The Human Brain Resembles A Snake

Hello,

Today I’d like to talk to you about how our thoughts control our life.

In the Garden of Eden, Eve was approached by the Serpent who asked her

“Did God really say you must not eat of the fruit?

This was the first question asked of the Serpent and the first time on earth that the Lord’s Words were questioned.

Human beings are the most intelligent of all of God’s Creation. We use our creative brain to come up with a wide variety of ideas to invent and improve life. We also use our brains to create ways to justify our behavior- where as the lower animals simply act in accordance with their nature.  God gave us free will to think for ourselves, otherwise He would have a bunch of robots on the earth who did His will because we were programed instinctually to do it.

But when we look around the world at all of the poor choices people make in marriage partners, careers that destroy families and in actions that lead to crime, we have to conclude that humans need help, we need a higher perspective- the perspective of the Lord.

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”(2 For 10:5)

If we think of our brains like a snake-actually the Serpent himself, would that change of mindset help to keep us on the right track? What if we pictured this ugly snake as the main influence on our thoughts, might this stop us from rushing ahead into a bad choice?  If we take the bait of Satan, you can be sure he will be laughing at our gullibility as we begin walking toward the grave- the death of our marriages, our relationships with our kids, the destruction of our body through excessive food, drink, drugs or work.

As the Serpent adds another notch to his belt of destruction we find ourselves 10-15 years down the road of life and don’t even recognize our life or understand why our desires didn’t bring us the happiness and prosperity we were after. Even if we received the desire of our heart in one area, the rest of our life is left in shambles and it in no way resembles the picture we had in our head. Why? Because Satan got into our head and lured us toward the lures of our eyes, away from a whole life- one that is healthy in every respect.

Humans simply look at what is in front of us. We think to ourselves much like Eve thought: this apple is good for food, it looks pretty and God probably won’t care if we eat it especially since we are hungry. But if we rationalize like Eve, going against the Word of God, we will be wrong and the pain in our life will increase and so will our labor.

To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life.”(Gen 3:17)

God tells us that not listening to Him will cause our work to be harder. But the flip side is that, if we do listen to Him and follow His teachings, He will lead us to a life of enjoyment, of labor that is just enough and not burdensome because He will help us in all areas of our life and we will not need to strive so hard.

“It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.”(Ps 127:2)

Our minds are crafty, influenced by the ways of the world. And we know who runs the world at the present moment…Satan. It won’t be until Jesus comes again that Jesus will take full control of the world. God gave humans control of their own lives and if we don’t read the instruction manual to life written supernaturally through God’s inspiration, we will be living lives influenced by Satan and the struggle will be real. We may have some temporary fun but other aspects of our life will suffer.

The only way to get Satan and His ideas out of our mind is to read the Holy Bible. This will show our humility and our acknowledgement that we don’t have all of the answers and would like guidance. This is an attitude the Lord blesses.

“God opposes the proud, but shows favor to the humble.”(James 4:6)

If not, we can count on Satan slithering into our lives and…

“The thief  comes to steal, kill and destroy. (John 10:10a)

The bottom line truth is that choices opposed to God and aligned with the Serpent in our head will give us the delicious desire we see in front of us but it will also kill, destroy or steal something from us every time.

Think of desiring rich food daily. This will lead to destroyed health goals, destroyed blood pressure, cholesterol and eventually destroyed health.

Think of an affair. One choice to step outside of marriage destroys trust, steals our desire for our marital partner, destroys our satisfaction with one partner and will kill our marriage and family eventually.

Think of choosing the easy path in life instead of putting in the effort and sacrifice to reap the benefits of a good education. Satan  steals our ability to support a family, destroys our quality of life and our self esteem diminishes because we settled for less than we are capable of.

Hard choices- easy life. Easy choices- hard life.

Every choice in life is important- we simply can’t see the effects for years. Won’t you join me in taking every thought captive to compare it against God’s Truth?

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”(2 Cor 10:5)

Let’s not listen to the Serpent/Satan who is trying to control our thoughts!
