Post. 234 What A Beautiful And Powerful Name

What a beautiful and powerful name is the name Jesus. Scripture tells us that anything we ask in the name of Jesus we will be given! But, as with all things that sound too good to be true, there is something that must happen first.

“You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father.”(John 14:13)

In order to bring glory to our Heavenly Father, we must know our Heavenly Father and be in a relationship with Him through the study of His word, prayer and listening intently for His leading. We cannot truly believe or take God’s Word literally unless we know Jesus. We must be “In Christ” just as the Heavenly Father was in Jesus. This state of being “In Christ” means that we know God and are obedient to Him. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”(John 14:11-13)

Jesus was telling His disciples that they too could do many mighty works- miracles even- because He had given them the power.  God- the Heavenly Father- gave Jesus the power to perform many miracles, now Jesus was telling His “children” the same thing. This act of passing on the power to the disciples and then to all of us who choose to believe and follow the teachings of Jesus- is the working of the kingdom of God here on earth. Yes we can ask and receive, but those who follow the Lord know how to ask and what to ask for. We have studied the Bible, and we have become familiar with Jesus’ ways and thus our requests are not selfish or unnecessary.

“When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”(James 4:3)

When we read the word of God we receive wisdom from the Lord as well as knowledge and understanding (Prov 12:2) and with this we start to understand what we can ask for using His powerful name. We also learn when we should leave the outcome to the Lord and simply pray for His will to be done in our lives. God’s Word empowers His followers and helps us understand that His words can be quoted to bring about the same result as when Jesus said them. The results will happen if it is God’s will and in His timing.

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”( Isaiah 55:10-11)

In the three and a half years that Jesus walked the earth, He spoke many things into existence, just like His Father spoke the world into existence. When we are “In Christ” or in right standing with the Lord by way of our obedience, we can use the powerful name of Jesus too, in order to accomplish great and mighty things on this earth. God’s word clearly gave us this power so that He would be glorified. When we choose to become a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, we become the hands and feet of Christ in this world.

I hope you become a follower of the Lord and your standing “In Christ” will bring about answers to your most heartfelt, God aligned requests in the beautiful and powerful name of Jesus.
