Post 115 Fist Fights At Disneyland And Moral Decay

Hello,

Today I’d like to discuss the subject of moral decay in society and how the solution can be found in God’s Word.

The definition of morality is: a particular system of values and self conduct.

It seems today, with bitter tweets and news stories depicting adult fist fights breaking out at Disneyland and on cruise ships, that somewhere, somehow we have lost our way. But there is hope! The Lord has left us an instruction manual to right living and proper moral conduct- The Holy Bible. The Bible is referred to as Truth. It is the one place we can look to find the answer to all of our moral dilemmas and problems.

Anything decided by a human being is subjective. Even if vast numbers of people have a similar belief about a topic – majority doesn’t rule -God does. There is no moral authority in numbers.

God is our Creator, and only from a creator can the created entity, understand how it should exist. We are to live as disciples in this world, behaving in a way that shows our full trust that the Lord can and will help us with all that concerns us if we follow His teachings.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknwledge Him and He will make your path straight.”(Prov 3:5-6)

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”(Rom 12:2)

“For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.”(1 Tim 4:8)

The purpose of every single human being is to behave in a way that shows we believe in God’s promises of help, hope, justice and deliverance from evil. When we leave our lives in the hands of God and behave in a way that is pleasing to Him, we are trusting Him. God is now allowed to work in our lives. When we take matters into our own hands we have used our free will to keep God out. He will not step in to help unless we ask. Only God can set matters straight, but He won’t step in unless we step out, and behave in a loving, forgiving manner. This is how we give God the glory He deserves. We are giving Him an opportunity to work His miracles. And God can weave a beautiful tapestry out of the ugliness of our lives.

God is the answer to everything. Only by His teachings can we find true happiness and peace that transcends our circumstances.

In order to illustrate my point, I have listed Bible verses that point to right living.

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”(1 Peter 5:8)

“Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.”(1 Cor 16: 13-14)

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”(Ps 1:1-5)

“How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!”(Ps 119:9-10)

“You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”(Psalm 16:11)

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”(Joshua 1:8)

When looking at these verses we can surmise a few end results of reading and adhering to the Scriptural way of living:

  • we will be protected from Satan’s lures
  • we will live a fruitful life (in other words a productive, useful and worthwhile life)
  • we will not live in sin (although we will still sin, it will not be a way of life)
  • we will have joy- which is happiness despite our circumstances
  • we will reap eternal pleasures
  • we will be prosperous and have success

Humans have been trying to do things our own way since the days of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. And like them, we have all turned our back on God at some point in our lives and created our own rules to live by. Yet when we look at the Bible verses above, we may come to realize that God has always been trying to lead us on the best path for our lives. Unfortunately, many of us have had our fingers in our ears choosing not to hear. This creates more problems.

Won’t you join me in studying the Bible in order to uncover the profound truths God reveals to those that spend time with Him? This act will put us on the path of life, the path of internal joy, purpose and peace.

Food For Thought,

Lisa
