Post 154 Choosing God Over Self

Hello,

I hope that you are drawing nearer to the Lord during these very uncertain times. There is comfort and protection when we are in a relationship with the Lord and I’d like to explore that in this post.

There is a verse in the book of Matthew that may be rather confusing to some. It talks about people who worked for the Lord, promoting His name, healing people and performing miracles yet Jesus told them He didn’t know them- take a look:

“Not everyone who calls out to me Lord! Lord! will enter the kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name. But I will reply, I never knew you. Get away from me you who break God’s laws.”(Matthew 7:21-23)

There are many pastors who are false teachers. They are sharing the Word of God but their heart is far from God- they desire the accolades, money and respect. God knows our hearts, He also knows those who chose to do His work and why they chose to do it.  God knows who He “called” to do His work.

For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”(Luke 14:11)

There are many promises in the Bible for us- some are conditional and some are unconditional. False teachers can tell us everything will be ok during this pandemic, when it won’t be okay for many people who are engaged in full out sin and a sinful lifestyle. God hates sin. God will not give us our full blessings when we are living in willful disobedience. He also allows consequences of our sin to hit us hard so that hopefully we look to Him for help. We cannot fool ourselves into believing that we can live any way we want and God will take care of everything. The Bible is full of guidelines and when we follow them we are blessed. The Lord is a good Father and gives all of us things we don’t deserve, but extra blessings and answered prayer are not something that happens when we are living in sin.

“For we know that the Lord doesn’t listen to sinners, but He hears those who worship Him and do His will.”(John 9:31)

False teachers, those who only tell us about the goodness of God will have a steep price to pay when it comes to judgement time. Many fall into the belief that God is all good and doesn’t discipline us but this is entirely wrong! A loving father disciplines his child when they are about to do things that might hurt themselves or ruin their life.

“My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.” (Proverbs 3:11-12)

The best protection we have against false teachers who tell us everything is going to be okay- even as we are living for ourselves- is to read Scripture.  If we are sincere and we truly desire to do the will of God, He will open our eyes of understanding. Then we will know if the pastor we are listening to is telling us God’s full truth!

“If anyone’s will is to do God’s will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority.”(John 7:17 ESV)

WILLFUL OBEDIENCE GET’S GOD’S ATTENTION
