Hello Again!
The biggest obstacle to helping others come to know God, is their rational mind. Those people who, like myself, weren’t raised with a silver spoon in their mouth, have a hard time “letting go and letting God.”
God doesn’t need our help- imagine that! He doesn’t need us to figure out all of the details to our lives and our future, because really, does anyone know the future? There are natural disasters, life threatening illnesses, job layoffs and a wide variety of things that mess up even the best laid plans. But, if you have a relationship with the Lord, He can lead you in the right direction.
“Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight.” (Prov 3:5-6)
The Bible is so practical. It teaches us God’s priorities for our lives. Below is an example of a verse that will lead parents in the right direction…
“Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds; for riches do not endure forever..” (Proverb 27:23-24 NIV)
To me, this verse is showing the importance of carefully watching over our families. This can be done by spending time together, teaching them about what is truly valuable. The verse goes on to say that what we gain at work doesn’t endure forever. We can conclude, that God values His people and relationships and we should too. This verse is supported by the following Scripture in the book of Matthew (Matt 22:36-40 NIV)
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
Love is THE most important quality we can give to others- period.
God always has our back when He teaches us how to live life. He sees the future and He is telling us, “Trust me, all will be okay, just follow my teachings.”
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”(Phil 4:7 NIV)
We also can determine from Scripture that God protects His followers from illnesses, temptations and fear. We can also count on what He has promised His followers in the Bible. This is the verse that illustrates that point:
“You will not fear the terror of the night or the arrow that flies by day; the plague that stalks in the darkness or the calamity that destroys at noon. Though a thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, it will not come near you. (Psalm 91:5-7)
Matthew Henry, a preeminent Bible commentator explained this psalm like this:
“He that by faith chooses God for his protector, shall find all in him that he needs or can desire. And those who have found the comfort of making the Lord their refuge, cannot but desire that others may do so. The spiritual life is protected …Great security is promised to believers in the midst of danger. Wisdom shall keep them from being afraid without cause, and faith shall keep them from being unduly afraid. Whatever is done, our heavenly Father’s will is done; and we have no reason to fear. God’s people shall see, not only God’s promises fulfilled, but his threatenings…
Reading the word of God will allow God to influence your thoughts and priorities. When the Lord influences you, it is always for your future benefit and peace. When we travel through our lives making our own choices not based on any superior wisdom, we will suffer the natural consequences of our choices. That is what was meant by God’s threatenings will be fulfilled.
Basically, as a good Father, He is urging us to be careful in life, make choices based on His Wisdom or you will be left to deal with a mess of a life. Now of course, if your life is a mess now, God is ready and willing to gather you into His flock of believers who choose to follow His ways and receive the benefits of that choice.
The Benefits of Wisdom
…if you truly call out to insight and lift your voice to understanding, if you seek it like silver and search it out like hidden treasure, then you will discern the fear of the LORD and discover the knowledge of God.…
A relationship with the Lord is very practical. God protects His followers and only what has been sifted through His hands will touch our lives. Sometimes we endure difficult situations and illnesses but through it all He has a purpose. God’s purpose for all of us, is to pull us into a relationship with Him. This relationship will allow us to understand His good and perfect will for our lives.
I hope you decide to give the Bible a “try.” My suggestion would be to pick up a teaching Bible in a translation that you can understand and read it every morning before you go about your day. The Lord promises us that if we search for Him with all our heart, we will find Him. And then the amazing supernatural help from our Lord will start to infuse your life with a peace and a happiness that cannot be purchased.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”(Jer 29:11-13 NIV)
