Post 52 Spring Cleaning

Hello! I hope your Spring is starting off well and that you have enjoyed some of those beautiful smells from the first blooms of the season, like the hyacinth flowers…heavenly!

Today I want to talk to you about junk.  We all know what junk food is – a food product that is appealing to the taste buds but of poor quality.

Did you ever think that your life can be filled with junk too?  I’m not talking about junk food here either, I’m taking about junk entertainment, junk relationships, junk pastimes or quite simply too much comfort.

Webster’s definition of junk is: something of poor quality, of little meaning or significance.

Is this the definition that you would like to ascribe to your life? How can we get out of the junk zone and into the quality zone?

Getting out of the junk zone can be accomplished by looking at the bigger picture and asking the big questions.  Why are we here? Is it just to entertain ourselves, to work hard for affluence, to collect things for ourselves, maybe do a few good deeds here and there continuing on until we die?

Or does that life seem hollow to you, like a hollow poor quality chocolate Easter bunny? It’s pretty on the outside but nothing of substance on the inside.  When we live a life like the majority, we jump on the fast track to mediocrity.  Focusing on ourselves rather than our Creator leads to a life of missing out.  Funny how we may be living with FOMO (fear of missing out) but we are actually missing big blessings from God if we don’t follow His teachings.

In contrast to a life of junk- a life well lived is when you are close enough to God for Him to direct you to the purpose He has for you. You will also get your accolades from God. “I will honor those who honor me and I will despise those who think lightly of me.” (1 Sam 2:30b NLT)

How do you receive those accolades?  By being in right standing with God- also called righteousness.  By allowing the Holy Spirit to guide all of your choices in life even if you are the only one in your circle of influence doing it- you will be on a path headed for stability, peace, security and joy.  This is what God provides for His people.  It is a life that leaves room for God to act in and through you – becoming dependent on God and not self sufficient. This is when God can do big things in your life.

“Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God” (2 Cor 3:5 ESV)

“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5 ESV)

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” (2Cor 12:9 ESV)

As you read Scripture I hope that your eyes are opened to the beautiful truths contained in the Word.  I also hope that you start to apply these teachings to your life.  Life with God leading you is a quality life.

We all have junk in our lives that should be removed for good. Let’s start the spring cleaning process of our lives today – admit to God that what you are focusing on feels hollow and empty and that you would like to follow Him into a life of meaning and significance.  A life that brings Him all the glory He deserves!

Have a wonderful week!
