Hello,
Today I’d like to use an analogy to explain why reading God’s Word and following His teachings are relevant to a stable, happy life filled with every good thing.
As a kid, did you ever sit outside on the sidewalk or grass and watch a colony of ants build their ant hill “home?” Hundreds of diligent workers bringing crumbs of sand to build their home and hauling pieces food to store for later. It’s really a miraculous operation if you stop to think about it.
As we look down at an ant colony and see the hard work of these diligent insects, we can see destruction in their future. We can see the overflowing puddle located up hill, that is slowly making it’s way toward the ant colony- only to be a full tidal wave when it rains again that night. This tidal wave will, of course, destroy the work of this diligent army of ants and they will be back to square one in the morning -if they survive.
In the same way, the Lord is looking down from heaven, so to speak, watching us carve out a life we feel will satisfy us- but He sees what we don’t see. We choose partners to marry without consulting Him. We take jobs that we think are best for us, working excessive hours- without consulting Him. We engage in activities, never stopping to think if they are going to benefit us longterm or if they will set us back in some way or harm us. We busy ourselves to build houses, go on exotic vacations and purchase things that steal our time- while our children are neglected, lonely and in need of love, security and direction. Our lives are based on what we see in the here and now, much like the little ant colony I described.
Striving and hard work don’t always lead to good things -not if it isn’t ordained by God. We as human beings need the help of God, who sees all, and can lead our lives away from destruction and toward the beautiful, balanced life He desires for all of us.
“In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight” (Prov 3:6)
“Who are those that fear the Lord? He will show them the path they should choose.” (Psalm 25:12)
When we make choices without consulting the Lord, the end result is never good. The Lord is waiting and willing to help guide your life and He knows what will bring you and your family the happiness and contentment you desire. I hope you turn to Him in the future when you are at a decision point. Open the Bible daily, pray and ask Him for the help you need – He will answer. It may not be the answer you were looking for, but it will be an answer that steers your life away from a future “tidal wave.”
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (psalm 119:105)
“My steps have held fast to your paths; my feet have not slipped.”(Psalm 17:6)
“I love those that love me and those that diligently seek me, find me.” (Proverbs 8:17)
Enjoy your week and in the future please walk around an ant hill!
Lisa
