No matter how old you are, you probably look to the new year with anticipation. It’s a fresh start and anything new is exciting and full of potential.
If your life is not bringing you the joy that you had anticipated, the Lord can help you feel content. The Proverb below is one example of how the Lord guides us to a great life. I placed my interpretation of the words below each verse to bring it into laymans terms-take a look:
Proverb 4:20-21
My son attend to my words
Pay attention to God’s teachings
Incline your ear to my sayings
Willingly listen to what God has to say as the most important words you will ever hear
Let them not depart from your eyes
Write them down where you will see them often- ie: post it notes in calendars, mirrors, cars etc.
Keep them in the midst of your heart
Memorize them, meditate on them often, keep them as a treasure in your heart and don’t let anyone persuade you that they can’t be trusted
For they are life to those who find them and health to all their flesh
The Lord’s teachings will lead you out of the worldly way of thinking and open your eyes to God’s ways. Healing, miracles and a content life are the promises God gives to those who put Him first in their lives.
“Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.” (Matt 16:24-25)
Disobedience started in the Garden of Eden because God gave humans a free will. If we didn’t have free will we would be like prisoners and our obedience would be forced so it would never show the glory of God….in layman’s terms, our obedience would never produce happy content people as well as miracles.
“And if God cares so wonderfully for the wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, He will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? So do not worry about these things, saying “what will we eat?” What will we wear?” These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your Heavenly Father already knows that you need them. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.”(Matt 6:30-32)
Knowing about God is just a start – knowing God, through the words He speaks to us in the Bible, will provide peace, joy and abundance of all things. I hope that you choose a life in the Kingdom of God this year!
All my best in 2018!
Lisa
