Post 34 Learning to Love The Lord

Hello! I wish you a happy Thanksgiving!  My prayer is that we not only enjoy the food, family and friends surrounding us; but that we realize just how lucky and blessed we all are! Thank you Lord!

In my previous post entitled “A doctor’s testimony” the doctor (Greg) realized through Bible study, that God walked the earth, died for our sins and rose from the dead.  Greg then hastily concluded that if he went to church on Sunday’s and tried to be a good person, this behavior should be enough to get to heaven. He was shocked to learn the next day that it requires more than that.

At work the next day, Greg had a patient who questioned him, point blank.  The patient inquired as to if he (Greg) had asked the Lord to be his personal Savior- a question all believers need to answer.  It’s not enough to believe in God, we need to ask Him to be our personal  Savior. After you sincerely offer this request the Holy Spirit comes into your heart to live and changes you into a person who desires to follow the Lord.

Asking the Lord to be my personal Savior was a very foreign concept to me.  However as I started reading Scripture thirsting for knowledge- somehow I learned that this is a very necessary step in order grow in my Christian faith.  Lets break this down a little.  Love for God is unselfish loyalty; we set our needs, goals and desires aside in order to follow what the Creator of the Universe knows is best for us. For example:

“Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.(Ephesians 4:23-24 NLT)

“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! (Galatians 5:22-23 NLT)

The second part of our relationship with the Lord involves trust.

Trust (from the online dictionary):
trəst/Submit
noun
1. firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.

synonyms: confidence, belief, faith, certainty, assurance, conviction, credence; reliance

If we are making every decision in our lives based on our feelings and not consulting with what we have read in the Bible – not letting the words of the Bible dictate our lives – then we have not allowed God to rule our lives as our personal Savior and we will will never have sustained peace.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (Corinthians 5:17)

As you trust the Lord and follow His ways He will continue to fill you with the Holy Spirit making your walk with Him easier and easier.
