Hello again readers! I so appreciate the time you take to read my blog.
So Today I would like to discuss a secret…
There was a book released in 2006 called “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrnes. The back cover states that once you know “The Secret” you can have, be or do anything you want through the law of attraction – Wow! That is quite a claim.
The book sold millions of copies and made the author very rich indeed, however, two years later the author was embroiled in several lawsuits and had little control of her creative work. This doesn’t sound like the secret to a great life to me, how about you? (Read about it here.)
Everyone seems to be looking for the secret to happiness. There are several books on the market today discussing the Danish word Hygge (pronounced Hoo-ga). It is a word that describes feelings of togetherness, coziness, warmth and enjoyment of the simple things. Being grateful for the simple pleasures in life is very important, especially when we attribute them to our provider – the Lord Jesus Christ. I am all for that. However “The Happiness Research Institute” in Copenhagen, Denmark (who’s job is to track happiness statistics) has found that happiness is based on all five senses and a feeling of safety and makes no mention of happiness being a result of having a close relationship with our heavenly father. This is amazing to me. An institute that is trying to uncover the secret to happiness, yet omits our Creator from the equation!
No one would argue that we can attain happiness through our five senses. For example we have all received happiness from a great meal, an evening by the fire, snuggling with a loved one etc. However, this is fleeting happiness and when it is over, we tend to look for something else to fill the void. When we have a relationship with God, we have joy and peace in our hearts even when our outward circumstances look very unhappy. This is called the peace of Christ that transcends all understanding and this, dear readers, is the REAL SECRET!
“You turn things upside down, as if the potter were thought to be like the clay! Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, “You did not make me”? Can the pot say to the potter, “You know nothing”?(Is 29:16 NIV)
Our lives began with God and our happiness and more importantly our purpose -which brings happiness to our lives – is found in God. The End.
So, this post is once again encouraging you to read the Bible because we cannot know the treasures contained therein (aka “the secret”) if we don’t read it. God did everything for us when He died on the cross. He promised us an abundant life which includes peace, health and prosperity (which is having enough of everything). He also said that He would fight our battles for us if we follow Him. Our job is to find out how God wants us to live and follow His teachings. He will then impress upon our soul that He means what He says and you can trust Him. Does this mean we will have an easy pain free life?
No.
We all suffer at times for our own sins and the sins of others. It does mean however, that God will make the end result of our struggles come to a better result than if we had relied on ourselves to get through the valley experiences of our lives.
“The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will show them his covenant.” (psalm 25:14 KJB)
cov·e·nant ( from the online dictionary)
noun:
1. an agreement.
synonyms: contract, agreement, undertaking, commitment, guarantee, warrant, pledge, promise, bond, indenture;
verb:
1. agree, especially by lease, deed, or other legal contract.
So God’s covenants to us are promises that He can’t break. They are also legally ours to enjoy, because God cannot lie, it is impossible.
“God is not human that He should lie, not a human being that He should change His mind. Does He speak then not act? Does He promise then not fulfill?” (Num 23:19 NIV)
Unfortunately, the more you trust yourself and your intellect, the less you can trust God’s promises. Please let that sink in. God desires humility and when he sees it, He will begin to reveal the treasures and promises contained in the Bible. This is not dissimilar to a human parent is it? Who wants a “know-it-all” child who simply won’t listen to our advice? Who would give the same favor and good gifts to both a humble child and an obstinate “know-it all?” Apparently, God won’t either.
“At that same time Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit, and he said, “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way. (Luke 10:21 NLT)
So the steps to happiness, peace in your heart and life direction, are found in the Bible. Once we read what the Lord says, He will give us understanding. Once we have understanding we can apply it. Applying God’s truth to our life is called obedience. And as I have mentioned before, an obedient person receives blessings.
“But don’t just listen to God’s word, you must do what it says. Or you are just fooling yourselves.” (James 1:22 NLV)
So the real secret is that there is peace, joy and abundance for everyone! With all due respect, we don’t need a “Happiness Research Institute,” God already wrote the Book years ago!
God’s Promise:
“For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.”
– Isaiah 54:10
