Post 239 When One Door Closes

The saying goes “When one door closes, God will open another one.” A friend of mine said, “Yes, but no one tells you that you will encounter “heck” in the hallway!”

God closes doors for reasons we may never understand. In Genesis, after Noah’s family and the animals entered the Ark- in order to be saved from the destructive flood- God shut the door.

“A male and female of each kind entered, just as God had commanded Noah. Then the LORD closed the door behind them.(Genesis 7:16)

The reason God closed the door was to protect Noah’s family.  We too, can think of a closed door in the same way. Many people are so set on their ways that when a door closes, they try to pry it open any way they can. This is dangerous territory. We need to go to the Lord in prayer, petitioning Him for clarity when a door closes.

We also must be aware that not every open door is a sign that God is okay with our path. Satan likes to assist us with our desires for success, not because he is nice, but because we are headed for trouble. He knows that the path we are traveling on will be the catalyst to difficulties that will end up destroy something important to us. We must always remember that Satan’s goal is to kill, steal and destroy our life.

Our only hope for clarity in our choices is through a relationship with the Lord. We need to know the Lord’s ways so well that we can spot any door opened at the hand of  Satan. Knowing God’s ways will require us to set aside our feelings and sometimes logic because the Lord can lead us in ways that seem counterintuituve.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.”(Isaiah 55:8-9)

Unfortunately, we have all been nudged to avoid certain things but ignored the warning. The inner voice that tried to get our attention is the Holy Spirit and if we ignore that voice again and again and again, eventually the helper (Holy Spirit) will leave us to our own choices and yes, we will suffer the consequences.

“Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant.”(Gal 6:7)

God may test our obedience via closed doors. We must not pry those doors open in order to get our way. Let’s encourage each other to stay on the straight and narrow road of our Lord because all obedience leads to blessings.

“God blesses the people who patiently endure testing.” (James 1:12 NLT)
