Post 220. How Often Should You Read The Bible?

Hello,

Many people wonder to themselves how often they should read the Word of God.

Jesus equated His Word- the Bible – to living water, stating that it is necessary for life and that it will give us a sustenance unlike H2O which we will be required to drink again. God’s Word will stay with us as a guidepost to help us stay on the best path for life.

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”(John 4:13-14)
We all know that we need water to live. Many scientific websites say we can only last three days without water. I find that number interesting. Jesus was placed in the tomb and three days later resurrected into heaven. The “Living water” was only absent from us for 3 days. Why did God choose three? No one can be sure, but we can take this number as a significant number, and if Father God only let Jesus be apart from His people for three days, perhaps we should take heed to that number and not be apart from the study of the Word for no more than three days as well. We can also look at how Evangelical churches are set up. Services are on Sunday, on the third day- Wednesday- small groups of Christians from the church study the Word and pray together. Then there is a three day period of time before Sunday service happens again.
Therefore we can and should take that pattern as what is best for our spiritual growth as well- to let no more than 3 days lapse before we dig into the Bible. However, why “drink water” only every three days? As we move closer to the Lord and enjoy time in His presence, we actually feel weak when we miss our “living water.”
Let’s look at what real water does to the body:
It lubricates and protects tissues, joints, and overall health…………The Word Of God protects us as we walk in His ways. (Ps 91)
It helps excreted waste………The Word of God helps dispel the lies of Satan (Ephesians 6:10-11)
It helps regulate temperature………..The Word of God keeps us in a close relationship with the Lord/Holy Spirit (Luke 3:16)
It gives us energy to think and perform……..The Word of God directs our thoughts and our power is made perfect in Christ (Phil 4:8, 2 For 12:9)
I think the more we hydrate our bodies the more we realize how good we feel. It is no different with the Word of God. Once we drink in the Words of Christ daily, we will  know the surpassing peace, the supernatural help and guidance to go through life as an overcomer.
“….I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.”(John 10:10)
Let’s drink our water and read our Bible’s daily,
Lisa
