Hello,
Today I’d like to discuss the authority of the follower of the Lord Jesus Christ.
If you have aligned your life with the teachings in the Bible and have stepped out of a lifestyle of sin- we still sin however, but we have chosen to turn away from sin to follow God – we have authority and do not need to be on the defensive in life, we can be on the offensive. Let’s look at the story of David and Goliath as our example.
Goliath, the giant who was dressed in full armor, looked like he would win against a shepherd boy with a sling and a stone. The only difference was that God was with David.
“David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”(1 Sam:17:45)
If you have submitted your life to the Lord, and are consciously aligning every habit, desire and lifestyle choice- in order to do that which is pleasing to our Lord- you are an overcomer with the Lord, in other words, you too will defeat your giants.
We may need to step aside from family who would like us to support different lifestyle choices that go against the teaching of the Lord. We may need to forgo family get togethers where the drinking is heavy, the jokes are crass and the name of the Lord is being used in vain. We may need to distance ourselves from lifelong friends so that we focus our life on God and not the world and all of its enticements. But in choosing to live a life following God we will have power and authority to overcome any giant in life.
” And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”(Mark 16:17-18)
We have authority over Satan and his accomplices who bring fear, sickness, depression, wandering, distraction or any evil that enters our life. We as believers were given authority to use the name of Jesus to bind Satan. Once we understand this we will be living in the power and peace of the Gospel- exactly how Jesus intended us to live.
“The cross was more than the loving and grace filled act of taking on a substitutionary death for us sinners. It was and is the power of God- the power handed to us through the Holy Spirit. This Spirit is not lacking in anything. The only way that the Holy Spirit power remains powerless in our lives, is if we refuse to believe God will work miraculously in our lives using His name. David said “I come against you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ” and we can use the beautiful name too.
We are anointed to win, empowered to overcome, impossible to curse as followers of the Lord. We should be walking in the favor, wisdom, protection, abundance, ability, grace, joy, freedom, and peace of the Gospel!
“And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.”(Matt 10:7-13)
