Post 179 The Truth Will Set You Free

Hello,

I’m sure many people have heard the Bible verse “the Truth will set you free.”  This was a statement by Jesus in the New Testament book of John.

“To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.  Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”(John 8:31-24)

The Truth is God’s Word. It is the bottom line truth about what is right and what is wrong, and knowing it and following it, provides us freedom to enjoy life the way God had intended.

If we follow the teachings in the Bible, the Lord will walk with us guiding, protecting and smoothing out the rough edges. But this is a choice. We have been given free will to choose God’s way or to choose our own path- there is no hybrid avenue to life. We are either in the Kingdom of God and thus free to live knowing that anything we encounter, the Lord will guide us through. Or we choose self sufficiency, ignoring God’s ways and choosing for ourselves our version of right and wrong.

Choosing to follow God is akin to how a child listens and follows his/her parents- knowing that a good parent will never let their child suffer unnecessarily or leave them to fall into great trouble. Making the decision to give every single life decision to the Lord who knows the future, means that we have chosen the safest, most content and powerful life.  Living within the boundaries of the Lord, protects us from many of the wicked things the secular world will encounter.

It’s an exchange- we give God the “go ahead” to run our lives, leaving behind things that appear attractive on the surface. But in return we know that temporary fun is just that, “temporary” and God’s ways are safe and lead us to contentment and joy.

If  we refuse to learn about Him and also refuse to go to Him in prayer to ask for direction for our life choices we  are acting like adamant toddlers who think we know more than our parents. This will cause us to end up missing out on the best things in life. The sad part is- many will never turn to God until they are so miserable and He is the only unchartered remedy. By then we will have missed out on countless blessings.  Yet- it’s never too late to save a life and make it meaningful.

“So if you who are sinners know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!”(Matt 7:11)

The Truth is God’s Word, it is true North- directing us to the best life. Only by following God will we have a well rounded abundant life.
