Hello,
I’d like to continue my discussion on the healing power of Scripture.
In the prior post I explained about the spontaneous healing of my broken foot. This first hand experience solidified my knowledge that God’s Word is powerful!
About a week after my foot was spontaneously healed I was studying Psalm 34. I found a very pertinant part of that Psalm on line 20 and I put it in bold- take a look:
Psalm 34:11-22 New International Version (NIV)
11 Come, my children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
12 Whoever of you loves life
and desires to see many good days,
13 keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from telling lies.
14 Turn from evil and do good;
seek peace and pursue it.
15 The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
and his ears are attentive to their cry;
16 but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil,
to blot out their name from the earth.
17 The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them;
he delivers them from all their troubles.
18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
19 The righteous person may have many troubles,
but the Lord delivers him from them all;
20 he protects all his bones,
not one of them will be broken.
21 Evil will slay the wicked;
the foes of the righteous will be condemned.
22 The Lord will rescue his servants;
no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.
So if we want the Lord’s ear to be attentive to our cries for help and healing, we have some very clear instructions in this Psalm. God promises that the righteous person (those in right standing with God and repentant) will be delivered from all of their problems. God’s ways may seem strict, boring, stuffy or completely old fashioned but we really don’t know what God is protecting us from as He guides us to His wholesome life.
“If you will diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, your healer.”(Exodus 15:26)
Jesus healed everyone that asked Him for healing. He didn’t supernaturally heal everyone in His surroundings- the sufferers had to come near Him and then ask Him. It is the same with us today. We need to develop a relationship with the Lord by reading His Holy Book. This relationship will solidify our trust in His supernatural ability. Then when trouble and ill health comes, we will know that our right standing with the Lord will assure us that He will bend His ear and listen to our pleas for help.
“That is remarkable indeed!” the man said. “You do not know where He is from, and yet He opened my eyes. We know that God does not listen to sinners, but He does listen to the one who worships Him and does His will. Never before has anyone heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind.…”(John 9:30-32)
Unlike this man who was healed of blindness instantaneously, the Lord may take us on a journey of obedience first, to see if we truly want to honor Him as Lord of our life. But as we follow Him and trust Him -in addition to giving up everything that will defile our bodies and minds- we can be assured that we are poised for a miracle, if we truly believe that He is our Great Physician!
“Isn’t it to share your bread with the hungry, to bring the poor and homeless into your home, to clothe the naked when you see him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will come quickly.(Isaiah 58:7-8)
So our protection, healing and answered prayer is connected to our Faith in God’s ability to heal and our desire to follow His teachings. Not praying for a miracle healing gives no us no chance to see God’s mighty power at work in us.
Food For Thought,
Lisa
