Hello,
Today I want to share a couple of verses in the Bible that deal with God’s unusual requests. When I first read a few of these- I thought they sounded a little far fetched. I have come to know however, that God had a reason for His requests, and it almost always involves proving that we trust the Lord so that He can bless us.
First of all let’s take a look at this verse:
“And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” (Matthew 16:19)
This verse explains that whatever we have in our “hands” to offer the world, if we are generous- the Lord will provide us with more. If we live as if we don’t have enough time, money, love, kindness etc. to share with others- we will live in a state of lack and God won’t open the gates of heaven to bless us with more. We can certainly work harder and harder to obtain more, but what we achieve will never come close to what God can provide for us.
So, if we are generous with our finances God will be generous to us. If we are forgiving of others, the Lord will forgive us. If we share our time and talent with others, the Lord will make sure that we have enough time to accomplish all that we desire. Here is a verse of Scripture to back this up:
“Give and it will be given unto you. A good measure pressed down shaken together and overflowing will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured unto you.”(Luke 6:38)
The Lord never asks us to give without paying us back in abundance. It may take several years before you see the reward for your trust and generosity but He will never be in debt to anyone- He will repay. Be the one that offers help to someone in need. It will not only bring a smile to God’s face, it will make your day.
Faith can only be exhibited by trust. God’s promises in the Bible are trustworthy as you follow His teachings. God doesn’t “help those who help themselves” as the phrase goes. BTW this is not in the Bible- Satan probably invented it!
God would like us to come to the end of ourselves so that we look to Him for help. Only then can He perform the miracles we are looking for. Only then can He give you peace in the midst of horrible circumstances. Only then can He provide when it seems like you have come to a dead end. If our prayers aren’t being answered, we should look to see if our lifestyle is matching up to how He teaches us in the Bible. If it isn’t, then we have no one to blame but ourselves for our unanswered prayers.
One of the many names for the Lord is “Jehova-Jireh” meaning the Lord will provide. There is a story in Genesis when Abram (his original name) was asked to sacrifice his son on a mountain. The Lord asked him to do this as an extreme example of trust. At the last minute the Lord provided a lamb to sacrifice in place of the boy. In the final years of Abraham’s (his new name) life, God blessed him as He had promised- with prosperity and so many children that they grew to populate many nations.
The Lord blesses us abundantly when he sees our obedience, faith and trust in Him.
Give God your problems this week. Read the Holy book, and trust that the Lord will help and guide you as you draw near to Him by reading His words.
Blessings,
Lisa
