Post 185 The Purpose Behind The Promises

Hello,

I’m sure that if you have been a Christian for a few years you know that the Lord has promised us things that the secular world will not receive. Let me start by giving you some of the Lord’s amazing promises:

Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins
    and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.(Psalm 103)

Blessings for Obedience

28 “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully keep all his commands that I am giving you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the world. You will experience all these blessings if you obey the Lord your God:

Your towns and your fields
    will be blessed.
Your children and your crops
    will be blessed.
The offspring of your herds and flocks
    will be blessed.
Your fruit baskets and breadboards
    will be blessed.
Wherever you go and whatever you do,
    you will be blessed.(Deuteronomy 28:1-6)

These verses talk about forgiveness, redemption from poor choices, health, prosperity, our home and all we own, our job- essentially everything about our life will be a blessing to us.

The key point is that God is a good God to those who follow Him and walk in His ways.  It is not the “prosperity” gospel or “the name it and claim it” gospel, it is the Child of God Gospel. Those who mimic their heavenly Father will receive the Father’s blessings.

Why does God provide this wonderfully successful life for all followers? In order to free up our time, talent and resources for His service.

God tells us “Therefore I tell you, don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or drink or what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns—and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?…(Matt 6:25-26)

So this verse frees us up to seek work based on God’s leading and not chase after money in order to feed and clothe ourselves. The Lord will step in and provide more than enough so that we have enough to share with others. Our job is simply to seek the Lord and follow His leading.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”(Matt 6:33)

What I have learned in life is that you can never give up something without receiving more from the Lord. When we give up secular friends, God provides us with churches full of Christian brothers and sisters that we have an instantaneous bond with at the first conversation. We cannot give up money without God continuously providing for us.

God doesn’t bless us so that we can just get by.  God gives abundantly in order for us to us to share.

You do not have because you do not ask God.  When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”(James 4:2b-3)

If you desire a life of less worry, stress and emptiness I hope you turn to our Heavenly Father and seek His ways. He won’t disappoint you. In the end you will be a blessing to others.

And by the way, God’s promises apply to nations as well. Nations who forget the Lord, take God out of schools and keep Him very walled off from general society will suffer the consequences. God protects and provides and He can withdraw protection and provision as well. Perhaps we can now see a connection with the pandemic, fires, hurricanes, and financial destruction to many businesses in America. We were a nation founded on God and we have chosen to turn our back on Him. So this nation, once the envy of other nations, is losing our former glory and suffering the consequences of turning our back on God rather than following the teachings in the Holy Book as we did when America was founded.

Food For Thought,

Lisa
