post 121 Our Main Concern Should Be Our Eternal Destiny

Hello,

Today I’d like to talk to you about turning our eyes towards eternity on a daily basis so that we don’t leave this earth with nothing to give to our Lord.

We are told in the verse below, where we should derive our happiness:

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.(Matt 6:19-21)

After we place God at the center of our lives and develop a relationship with Him by reading His stories, teaching moments and conversations in the Bible, we simply cannot derive the same pleasure from fleeting things on earth.

God leads us to a quieter life, a peaceful life that fills our souls. And this makes us content and happy on a daily basis- not simply when we are on our much coveted vacation. In fact our vacations will even be better after we develop a relationship with the Lord. We will marvel more at His creation and the way He has inspired people to build amazing cathedrals, pyramids, paintings, sculpture and intricate buildings. We will know that we are witnessing God’s glory through the hands of His created beings.

When we are living the everyday however, and reading the Bible we learn:

“Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.”(James 1-2)

So our church-going is good, our prayer life is too. But pure religion in the opinion of the Lord is to visit widows and orphans and stay out of the frey so to speak. This means to seek what God deems important and make sure we are on the “straight and narrow” as grandma would say. Leave the debauchery to those who refuse a relationship with the Lord.

God desires that we work hard at the jobs we currently have, however He may ask you to reduce your work load or leave your job as He asked His disciples to leave their nets and be fishers of men. (Matt 4:19). This is something He still asks us today, and only those who are listening for the still small voice of the Holy Spirit, will hear. If God calls you into a ministry of some sort,  we never need to worry that we won’t have enough. If God takes something from you, He will give you back more than you had before. Think of the little boy who had five small rolls and two fish for his lunch. He gave Jesus the entire lunch and Jesus multiplied it and fed thousands with leftovers. Never worry about giving up part of your income for God- He will provide.

“Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?…Then Jesus took the loaves and the fish, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted.”(John 6:9,11)

We are the hands and feet of Jesus on earth. The Holy Spirit helps us change our lives in order to do those things that Jesus deems important, and when we do, we are demonstrating the glory of the Lord.

Let’s encourage each other to do more for the needy as the Lord instructs, because this is what we bring with us to our eternal home.

Have a good week,

Lisa
