Post 187 God Tries To Guide Everyone – We Need To Listen

When a friend first handed me a bible 17 years ago I was at a point where I was in so much pain that I was very receptive to what God had to say about my situation. When a person is open and receptive to what God has to say about their life, God speaks.

The first time God revealed himself to me was when I was being backed into a corner, so to speak, by some well connected people who were ready to do anything to harm and discredit me. I jumped out of bed at 3:00 one morning and said “Oh my God there is no hope!”

Then, because I addressed the Lord without even knowing it, He answered.

“Why do you think you are going to lose?” and after that He said “Do not be afraid”

Both of these sentences were an internal whisper into my right ear. It was quite a shock because I was never taught that God actually speaks to people.  I knew however, when I “heard” those two sentences, that they didn’t come from me and I knew enough about the Lord from over a year of bible reading, that it was the Lord speaking to me. I also knew immediately and innately that if I stayed close to the Lord everything would be okay in the end.

My situation did not get better at that point. I was brought through my difficulty, God didn’t take it away. But through the horrible aspects of my difficulty I learned more and more about the Lord. I actually craved what He had to say and would almost run to my chair daily after taking my children to school, in order to read the Bible. I would be glued to His words for two or three hours learning more and more about the Lord- and I continue to this day to  read the Word of God.

After I put my life in line with Biblical teachings,* I decided to ask the Lord how to proceed with my life. I asked the question, “What should I do with all of my free time Lord?” And He answered immediately! He told me to “put together all that knowledge” This again, was an internal whisper in my right ear. I took that sentence as a directive to write about what I had learned from reading the Bible.

Writing was never a craft I envisioned for myself, in fact I received my worst grades in high school in English and composition. But this goes right along with how the Lord works. He likes it when the odds are against Him, then He can display His power through us. God has given me all of the content for this blog, and even though I am still a very average (at best) writer, God will make the words He gave me, impact readers in the way He desires. This is my purpose in life, and He has a purpose for everyone.

We have choices in life. We can choose to find the Lord by reading His words or we can choose to go at life alone, trying to piece together some sort of meaning to it all. But there is no meaning to life if we don’t follow God. Life becomes a series of events both good and bad that have no meaning other than the “here and now.”

A life believing in God, following His teachings and trusting Him, is a life of purpose here on earth and a full life in eternity. If we help others to be saved from a dead end life here, we are serving God’s agenda which blesses us and brings others into God’s kingdom.

God wants to bless all of us- both in conditional and unconditional ways. We receive these blessings through our desire to diligently understand Him. When we diligently search for our heavenly Father’s opinion, we are acting with humility and God blesses, helps and guides the humble.

“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants would live.”(Deut 30:19)

A person following the Lord- also known as abiding in the Lord- is living. A person following his/her own agenda is dying. God makes this very clear in the Bible:

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.“(John 15:4)

If we let God and His teachings lead us we will thrive in all aspects of life well into old age. How do we know this? It is written…

Food For Thought,
Lisa

*choosing to follow the Lord by aligning our life with His teachings in the Bible, doesn’t mean we will not sin or that we are perfect people. It means that we have given every choice to the Lord and desire to be lead by Him. We may be stubborn at times and do things our own way, but eventually we will discover that human thinking is always sub par and God’s way is perfect!
